The Gallery Mark Müller was founded in Zurich in 1990 and has since pursued a distinctive, continuous programme showing national and international positions in contemporary art. Typically we have shown artists that locate themselves in the abstract, conceptual and radical fields of contemporary painting, drawing and sculpture; or precisely in spaces of borders and tensions between the different techniques and approaches. A particular focus of ours is on painting, a field that we subject to continuous interrogation by showing positions such as those taken early on by Joseph Marioni or Katharina Grosse.

In our work we place equal importance on our long-standing collaboration with established artists – the gallery has, for example, been working with François Morellet since 1990 – as we do on promoting and supporting young, dynamic positions. In addition we provide artists who are not represented by the gallery with a platform by organising project-related exhibitions.

To ensure that artists represented by the gallery gain and retain international exposure we take part in a variety of art fairs, such as Art Basel, where we have exhibited continuously since 1993.

In March 2011, after an initial five years in the Schöllerareal, followed by fifteen years in Gessnerallee 36, the gallery moved to its current space, located in a renovated workshop in Hafnerstr. 44, not far from the Museum für Gestaltung and close to many other galleries in Limmatstraße.
